I’m somewhat gobsmacked.

Really, it’s people who write things like this (click) that really do my nut in, and give Christians as a whole a bad name. This person, using a mass of out-of-context Bible quotes and his own “high-and-mighty”, self-righteous attitude rips everyone from Petra to Amy Grant to DC Talk to absolute shreds - disregarding them or their music as “Satanic”. And the cheek of adding a “salvation message” to the end of it really bugs me too… why would anyone ever want to follow Jesus after seeing one of His supposed followers ripping other people to shreds? It’s beyond me.

At the end of the day, I’m not going to get too stressed about it, nor am I going to get too judgemental - but judgement isn’t up to the Christian. Maybe in all of his Bible quoting the guy forgot when Jesus said “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” (John 8:7).

You know the sad thing is that there are people who buy into this and do accept the that gospel message. Let me clarify, it’s not sad that they accept the message and become Christians, that’s wonderful, it’s that they buy into this “old school” thinking that’s sad, that you have to be a suit and tie wearing, bible thumping, stick up your butt person to be a “true Christian”.

Well, it’s the bane of Christianity’s existence. People have forgotten what in the Bible is fixed, and what needs to be relevant. Jesus spoke in parables about sheep and such because he was talking to people who dealt every day with sheep and, indeed, to people in a culture that (to an extent) revolved around sheep. To talk to people today about sheep… it loses it’s impact.

Don’t change the message… but we need to change the delivery. Rock and roll isn’t the spawn of Satan. At the end of the day, God looks at the heart - if there are people out there doing hard Christian rock and they mean it as praise to God, and ministry for God… that’s cool with me.
